Federal Pell Grant
A Federal Pell Grant, unlike loans, does not have to be repaid. Pell Grants are awarded usually only to Undergraduate Students who have not earned a Bachelor's or Professional Degree. Pell Grants are considered a foundation of Federal Financial Aid, to which other aid maybe added.
Federal Direct Stafford Loans
Direct Stafford Loans are low interest loans for eligible students to help cover the cost of higher education.
Direct Subsidized Loans
Direct Subsidized Loans are for students with financial need. The Direct Loan does not charge interest while the student is enrolled at least half time, during grace periods and deferment periods. The Direct Subsidized Loan goes into repayment 6 months after graduation or withdraw.
Direct Unsubsidized Loans
Direct Unsubsidized Loans are not based on financial need. Interest on this type of loan accrues from the time it is paid out. Payments can be made on the interest while the student is attending school, during grace periods and deferment periods. If payments are not made the interest will accrue and be capitalized which will then make the principal amount of the loan higher.
Direct Parent Plus Loans
Parents of dependent students may apply for a Direct Plus Loan to help pay for their child's educational expenses as long as eligibility requirements are met. The Direct Plus Loan does require a credit check.
